MP fund

This is with reference to the article `The economic faultlines', (Business Line, September 19). The question of whether the MP's local area development (MPLAD) fund should continue at all is also worth consideration.

There have been suggestions for the withdrawal of the scheme, an important one being that it grants an unjust electoral advantage to the MP. Any scheme introduced for the benefit of the people should be subjected to an objective appraisal.

It is worthwhile to study whether the set goals are achieved. The funds allocated to the scheme are considerable and MPs should be held to account to produce tangible and results.
