AP, Dubai Govt in pact for Knowledge Corridor project

Hyderabad , Sept. 25

THE Andhra Pradesh Government and the Department of Economic Development, Government of Dubai, have tied up to develop an outer ring road (ORR), a Knowledge Corridor and areas under the cluster development project.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on Saturday by the State Government represented by the State Principal Secretary, Infrastructure Development, Mr K. V. Rao, and the Director General, Department of Economic Development, Dubai, Mr Mohd Ali Alabbar, in the presence of the State Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy.

The outer ring road will consist of a 165-m stretch, which will be dotted by townships. This project is aimed at decongesting the city traffic along the route connecting major centres, including the proposed international airport project coming up at Shamshabad by early 2008.

The eight-lane road will feature self-contained satellite townships and a 20,000-acre Knowledge Corridor. The corridor will be developed on commercial lines for various projects. It would provide the necessary infrastructure for workers in IT, life sciences and financial services.

A special purpose vehicle will be created for this project under the public private participatory model. The development process of the infrastructure projects would be specified in an agreement (which is to be charted out later).

It is contended that the Dubai Government's experience in the development of Dubai Marina, World Trade centre, and a host of international projects would help this alliance.
