YSR directs evacuation of flood-hit

Hyderabad , Sept. 19

FOLLOWING incessant rains in parts of the State due to a cyclonic storm, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed the Commissioner for Disaster Management, Mr Shashank Goel, to evacuate those stranded in the low lying areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts to safer places.

According to a statement, the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary, Dr Mohan Kanda, to closely monitor the situation.

While Kalingapatnam recorded 35 cm of rain, Tekkali recorded 14 cm, Visakhapatnam 13 cm, Srungavarapukota 12 cm, Veeragattam12 cm, Anakapalli 8 cm, Yeleswaram 8 cm, Eturnagaram 7 cm, Koida and Perur 7 cm each, Kunavaram 6 cm, Kakinada, Tuni and Yalamanchali 5 cm each, and Bhadrachalam, Dummugudem and Rajahmundry 4 cm each.
