Cinema Industry & Economy - Tourism Travel film fest on Kerala from today Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Sept. 8 THE first international travel film festival of Kerala will begin here on Friday. Called `Journeys', the three-day event is possibly the first of its kind in Asia, the State Tourism Minister, Mr K.C. Venugopal, said. The festival will become an important aspect of Kerala Tourism's promotional strategy, he said. Kerala Tourism hopes to transform `Journeys' into an important event on the world's tourism calendar, he added. According to Mr Venugopal, the festival is intended to promote travel, create awareness about new places, present well-known destinations in a new light and give a fillip to travel writing. Twenty travel-related films will be screened during the festival, which is being organised by Kerala Tourism and Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies in association with Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and Institute of Journalism-Press Club Thiruvananthapuram. Besides Indian entries, those from Italy, Switzerland, Dubai, Nepal, Israel and Austria will be screened during the festival. Screening sessions are based on four themes nature, culture and heritage, destination and travelogue. A seminar on `media and tourism' will be held as part of the festival. The festival, which will be held at the Kalabhavan theatre complex, will also include an open forum on `tourism films new hopes, new horizons'. The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the festival on Friday morning.
