LIC unions against VRS plan

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Sept 6

THE employees unions of LIC would oppose any plans to bring about a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) to reduce its staff strength.

"We are totally opposed to it," Mr B.S. Rawat, Joint Secretary, All India LIC Employees Federation, said, reacting to reports quoting the Chairman, Mr A.K. Shukla, as saying that the state-owned insurer was planning a VRS.

He said that LIC could take care of all its staff through aggressive growth plans. "We have had no discussions with the management for VRS," Mr Rawat said.
