Announcements Industry & Economy - Rural Development Lupin forms panel to help doctors in rural areas Our Bureau
Mumbai , Sept 2 WHEN Lupin had to fly down doctors from Mumbai to Guwahati to treat an employee who was critically ill, the company decided that it had to extend itself beyond its pharmaceutical ambit. It was not the lack of infrastructure, but knowledge on how to deal with a critically ill patient, recalls Lupin's Mr Sakti Chakraborty, on the incident that triggered the setting up of the Care Core Group. Doctors from different specialities are in this group with the intention of disseminating information on improved critical care in rural areas, said Mr Chakraborty, Lupin's President - India Region Formulations. Different critical conditions, such as ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and other hospital-acquired infections such as septicemia, gastro-intestine infections, brain diseases and critical infections related to cancer are some of the conditions discussed by the panel. The 16-member panel has also framed guidelines to help doctors dealing with critical illnesses, in areas where they may not be able to participate in regular continuing medical education programmes, he said. The information flow will also be from the rural areas and hence a database could be created on critical care, he added. The Lupin official expects to reach out to about 300-odd doctors across the country. The panel hopes to meet about five times in a year.
