HMT, Mitsubishi in talks

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: HMT Ltd said on Thursday that it was in discussion with Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corporation to form a joint venture to make utility vehicles.

"Talks are at a preliminary stage. It is for making multi-utility vehicles and some other small vehicles for farmers," Mr Priyadarshi Thakur, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, said.

He added that a team from HMT had visited Mitsubishi earlier and now a team from Mitsubishi is expected in the next few weeks to take the discussions forward.

"The details of the collaboration were yet to be finalised... the talks are still in a preliminary stage. Mitsubishi was shortlisted by HMT after talking to several prospective partners. The products made in collaboration would be very competitively priced," he said.
