Research & Development Icrisat identifies thrust areas for sorghum, pearl millet Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Sept. 2 THE International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat), in association with partners of the Hybrid Parents Research Consortia, has identified thrust areas for renewed research and partnership in sorghum, pearl millet and pigeon pea. Icrisat held a consultation meet with the partners of the consortia. The consortia decided to strengthen linkages with the industry and markets and attract entrepreneurs to produce value-added products from sorghum and pearl millet. "We believe that path-breaking scientific achievements are possible when different organisations work in tandem, consolidating their strengths and synergies," Dr William Dar, Director-General of Icrisat, said in a press release. The thrust areas for sorghum include improved grain yields and resistance to shoot fly, grain mold and aphids.
