ATLAS Copco is expanding its facilities in Pune and Nashik. The new facility in Pune will become operational by mid-2006, while the Nashik facility is scheduled to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2007.
Announcing this here on Wednesday, Mr Philip Davidson, Managing Director, Atlas Copco India Ltd, said the company is concentrating the production of mining equipment to one site in Nashik, where it is investing in new assembly units for surface drilling rigs and in the modernisation of the handheld tools facility.
In Pune, he said investments are for the modernisation of the compressor production facility, thus increasing the capacity. He pointed out that the project is an important step in the strategy to meet an anticipated increase in demand. He said revenues had almost doubled during the last two years. "The step we are taking to increase the capacity for construction and mining equipment are required both to meet an increase in demand and to enable a full integration of the units we acquired during 2004. At the same time, we will also capture additional synergies by rationalising our production of handheld tools to one site in Nashik," Mr Davidson said.
