SAINT Gobain Glass India's expanded facility for float glass production is expected to commence production in October-November while that of its automotive glass plant has started commercial operations in July.

According to an official press release, a seven-member delegation from Saint Gobain, led by Mr Jacques Aschenbroich, Chairman and President, Saint Gobain Vitrage, France, briefed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms Jayalalithaa on the expansion project at its facility in Sriperumbudur near Chennai.

Against initial plans of investing Rs 500 crore in the expansion, Saint Gobain has invested Rs 700 crore for its second float glass plant and an automotive glass plant. It has also spent Rs 5 crore on a rainwater harvesting facility.

Saint Gobain signed an expression of commitment with the Tamil Nadu Government in October 2003 to expand its operations and for the State Government to provide a support package.
