Hyderabad , Aug. 25

THE Confederation of Indian Industry is organising a seminar on `Basel-II norms - Are we ready?' here on Saturday.

The Basel-II accord represented the convergence of research and practice in supervision as it attempted to apply the latest financial modelling techniques to the prescription of capital adequacy, a CII press release said.

Ms Usha Thorat, Executive Director of the Reserve Bank of India, would deliver the keynote address on the theme.

Though the RBI had come out with draft guidelines for the implementation of the new capital adequacy framework, its complexities had raised many questions in the banking industry.

"The first and foremost of the issues being - Are we ready?"

The new regime must be built on solid foundation such as sound accounting standards and practices and effective legal systems, it said.
