`Electrical industry posts healthy growth in first quarter'

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Aug. 19

THE Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA ) has reported significant growth in the industry in the first quarter of the current fiscal, especially in segments such as transmission lines, switchgear and rotating machinery.

"While the power equipment industry grew by 13.3 per cent, the transmission and switchgear industries recorded a 43.6 per cent and 20 per cent growth respectively," said Mr S. Ramaswamy, IEEMA President.

He said the major drivers for transmission lines were the various power sector reforms and the enlargement of the distribution network under the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme.

"The switchgear industry continues to record significant growth and the reasons are the distribution reforms programme, the growing construction industry, the commercial buildings and an expanding export market. Some Indian companies are setting up manufacturing facilities in China," he said.
