Foreign Relations No support for UN membership Our Bureau
Kolkata, Aug. 18 DESPITE the growing friendship in the last few months, the US is yet to lend full support to India in its claim for permanent membership of the UN Security Council. According to Dr Mulford, the first priority of the US was to reform the UN. In this context, he referred to financial irregularities at the UN that were yet to be investigated properly. "Our second priority is the restructuring of the Security Council and how it fits with the overall reforms of the UN. Only then can we consider India's demand for membership," he said. He, however, said the US would continue to support Japan for permanent membership.
