Chennai , Aug. 18

CARTOON Network Enterprises, the consumer products division of the children's channel, has made a foray into third-party licensing with the launch of Beyblade toys in India.

The division, the India representative of Beyblade-Japan, has appointed Funskool "as the key retailer, producer and distributor of these toys in India," says a company press release.

"Beyblade toys will be yet another effort to drive the popularity of our characters outside the realm of television. As the year progresses we will be announcing more such strategic tie-ups," said Mr Jiggy George, its Director-India and South Asia, in the release. With its origins in the ancient Japanese spinning top called Bei Goma, Beyblade is targeted at boys, and products are priced between Rs 149 and Rs 349.

The Beyblade animation series is already running on Cartoon Network.

Nearly three months ago, the consumer products division launched a range of products, including apparel and accessories, linked to its properties such as the Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory and Johnny Bravo.
