ATTRACTING and retaining skilled staff is high priority for top executives across the globe.
A study conducted by Accenture, involving 425 senior executives, found that workforce improvement dominated top priorities. For instance, the maximum number of respondents (35 per cent) ranked `attracting and retaining skilled staff' as topmost agenda, followed by issues such as `changing organisational, cultural employee attitudes', `improving workforce performance' and `developing employees into capable leaders.'
Mr Peter Cheese, global managing partner, Accenture's Human Performance Practice, said, "Even though business conversations have centred on global competition, business leaders are increasingly aware that nothing happens unless people-talent is engaged in the right way."
Customer-retention also occupies top spot on executive agendas. Both `acquiring new customers' (32 per cent) and `increasing customer loyalty and retention' (29 per cent) were popular responses across all countries surveyed.
The survey was part of an annual study to identify senior executives' top concerns. Respondents included heads of key functions at many of the world's largest organisations across all major industries and the public sector.
The study was conducted from October 2004 through January 2005.
