Rlys passenger bookings up 7.43 pc in June

THE Railways registered a 7.43 per cent increase in passenger booking for June compared to the corresponding period last year.

For the April-June quarter, the total number of passengers booked increased by 9.78 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. The total number of passengers booked during June increased on all regions compared to the same period last year, said an official release.

During the month as well as cumulative period up to June 2005, the total earnings were more than the Budget Proportions (BP) by Rs 32.04 crore and Rs 465.10 crore respectively, it added.

Moreover, there was a decline in accidents during June 2005 and the April-June quarter on a year-on-year basis. During the month and the quarter, while the Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) exceeded the targeted production of wheel and axles, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) and Railway Coach Factory (RCF) attained the targeted production in locos and coaches, respectively.
