Ponni Sugars (Erode) posts profit

CHENNAI: Ponni Sugars (Erode) Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 57 lakh on net sales of Rs 21.19 crore for the three months ended June 30, 2005.

During the same period in the previous year the company reported a net profit of Rs 34 lakh on net sales of Rs 19.53 crore.

Addressing the company's annual general meeting, its chairman and managing director, Mr N. Gopalaratnam, said that in the April-June quarter in 2005 the company processed 64,266 (12,463) tonnes of sugarcane.

Sugar production was 6,076 tonnes (909 tonnes), raw sugar processed was 2,496 tonnes (nil) and turnover Rs 21.19 crore (Rs 19.53 crore).

The company has taken steps to get nod for a distillery-cum-ethanol facility. The progress of the ethanol programme to blend ethanol in automobile fuel would be a factor in deciding further developments, he said.
