Tamil Nadu Newsprint posts higher net profit

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL) has reported an increase in net profit at Rs 13.14 crore on net sales of Rs 179.30 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2005.

During the corresponding period in the previous year the company reported a net profit Rs 1.49 crore on net sales of Rs 130.50 crore.

Total expenditure was Rs 144.56 crore (Rs 112.57 crore), interest and finance charges Rs 4.27 crore (Rs 3.48 crore) and depreciation Rs 15.22 crore (Rs 15.09 crore).

According to a release from the company, production during the quarter was 54,071 tonnes (38,279 tonnes). The company proposes to raise pulpwood plantation in 5,000 acres under farm forestry and 1,000 acres under captive plantation during the current year.
