Industry-R&D linkage programme

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government is launching a programme to strengthen the linkage between industry and research and development (R&D) institutions for mutual benefit.

The event, styled `InduSearch', is being organised by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) in association with the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment.

Mr P.H. Kurien, Managing Director, KSIDC, said here on Thursday that `InduSearch' would be a biennial event and provide a platform for convergence of industry and R&D institutions to benefit each other as well as for the overall economic development of the State. In the absence of close co-ordination, the technological requirements of industry were not being met by the research initiatives of the academic institutions and the R&D laboratories. The new programme was designed to address this problem.

The first symposium of the linkage programme, titled InduSearch 2005, would be inaugurated by the President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on July 28. The President would release a directory of scientists and R&D institutions on the occasion and also launch an interactive Web site.

The business sessions of the symposium would be held on July 29 where about 20 papers covering the technological innovations and R&D initiatives of the institutions and universities would be presented. Besides, representatives of industry associations and leading industrialists would present papers highlighting the specific requirements of industry.

About 300 delegates would participate in the business sessions, Mr Kurien said.
