SALARIED taxpayers and other non-corporate assessees whose accounts are not required to be audited can file their income-tax returns with the tax department even on August 1.

The Finance Ministry on Wednesday said that the due date for filing of returns for such assessees continues to be July 31, 2005.

As July 30 and July 31 are holidays (Saturday and Sunday), any return filed on Monday (August 1) would also be accepted.

An official release also said that income-tax authorities have made necessary arrangements for accepting the returns of income on July 30 as well as 31.
