Chennai , July 19 THERE is a need to boost the image of BPO (business process outsourcing) industry which has been tainted in the recent past, according to Mr Kiran Karnik, President, National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom). "We need to work together to make sure that the industry is projected well. There is enormous growth opportunity for young people, and the industry needs to have a better image," he said in his address at Nasscom Summit HR 2005. The media picked up one or two incidents and generalised them for the entire industry. For example, concerns were raised about night shifts in the industry. "Working in night shifts is prevalent across the world, and there is no major worry about this. However, we are looking at the issue," he said. Nasscom has signed an agreement with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to strengthen technical education through curricula, faculty infrastructure and pedagogy improvements. Nasscom and AICTE will jointly undertake faculty development programme to upgrade skill sets and knowledge base of the technical faculty in the areas of emerging technologies and project management skills related to IT. This would be in partnership with the industry, he told newspersons on the sidelines of the two-day summit, which began here on Tuesday.
