Keyed up for competition

A vegetable vendor arranging bitter gourd at Maradu market in Kochi. The market, constructed with the European Economic Community assistance, started functioning a fortnight ago. The market is beginning to do brisk business with vendors trying to woo customers offering vegetables at lower prices. Currently, bitter gourd is quoted between Rs 700 and Rs 750 a quintal down Rs 200 from the prices that ruled at the start of the year.
