New Delhi , July 13 THE Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms Shiela Dikshit, today said that the synergy that has come around the Delhi Metro has made it an example to be emulated in other parts of India. Referring to the Delhi Metro project as a "historic landmark", she said that the metro was a "precursor to the changes that are going to take place in Delhi." Ms Dikshit was addressing the `National Conference on Delhi Metro: The Story of Success-Sharing of Experiences', jointly organised by the CII, the Government of Japan, and Japan Bank of International Co-operation. She also said that cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore have evinced interest in replicating the project. Mr E. Shreedharan, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), said that the most encouraging aspect of the project was that it has been making operational profit from day one. He added that Line 3 - from Barakhamba Road to Dwarka - is scheduled for revenue operation in December this year. Mr Shreedharan also said that Delhi Metro's success has encouraged many State Governments to avail themselves of DMRC's expertise for planning metros in their capital cities.
