The Hindu Business Line : AP CM upset over revenue targets not being met in Govt departments

THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has expressed displeasure at the shortfall in targeted revenues in Commercial Taxes, Excise and Transport departments for the first quarter of the financial year 2005-06.

He directed the officials of the revenue earning departments to achieve the targets as per the annual targets fixed for each department concerned without fail.

The Chief Minister chaired a meeting on resources mobilisation, with the Ministers for Finance, Forests, Transport, Commercial Taxes, Mines & Geology, Chief Secretary and senior officials of the departments at Secretariat on Wednesday.

While noting that the departments of Stamps & Registration, Mines & Geology, Forests and Revenue have made sufficient progress in the achievements for the first quarter ending June, 2005, the Chief Minister asked them to improve their performance further.

Dr Reddy was informed that due to the new VAT policy introduced this April, the pace of progress in Commercial Tax department was slow during the first quarter but it would pick up in the long run.

Reviewing the Transport Department, the Chief Minister called for improving the administrative machinery to check illegal plying of stage carriers and other private vehicles. He wanted some sort of scientific method should be adopted such as introducing Radio Frequency Identification Device so as to identify and book such illegal transportation easily.

He directed the Secretary, Transport, Mr A.K. Tigdi, to come up with necessary proposals after making a scientific study in this regard.

The Chief Minister agreed for the construction of own buildings for the offices of the Registration & Stamps department in all the places where they were in old and dilapidated buildings at present and suggested for improving the environment in these offices.
