THE mega Rs 139-crore housing project, contemplated by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) at Madhurawada village and awarded to the Singapore company Jurong, has run into rough weather again, as the AP High Court has stayed it and other projects on a petition filed by the Buddhists.
Mr B.S Chalam, founder and Secretary of Buddha Vihara Foundation Trust, and other office-bearers said at a press meet here on Friday that the mega housing project and other projects in the vicinity of Madhurawada would affect the Buddhist site at Bavikonda.
Mr Chalam said they were left with no option but move the AP High Court, as the VUDA had obtained environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment.
He alleged that, from the beginning, the VUDA officials were resorting to prevarication on the issue. Even the officials of the State Archaeological Department were changing their versions.
Mr Chalam said the high court issued the stay orders on June 28.
