Tata Motors' vehicle sales up 9.4% in June, car sales dip
Mumbai , July 7
TATA Motors today reported a dip in car sales, but posted a 9.4-per cent growth in total vehicle sales for June to 33,018 units from the previous corresponding 30,183 units.
This included a 5.1 per cent increase in total domestic sales to 29,981 units (28,522 units for the year-ago period).
While June saw an improvement in sales of commercial vehicles with a 15.5 per cent rise, there was a 4.15 per cent fall in sales of passenger vehicles.
The company's commercial vehicle sales for the month touched 15,530 units (13,445 units). M&HCV sales, earlier impacted by problems in supply of critical components, corrected the trend to show a 2.3 per cent increase at 9,574 units (9,355 units).
LCV sales at 5,956 units (4,090 units) were up 45.6 per cent.
In May, the company's domestic truck sales had declined to 13,333 units (14,391 units) and in April, to 10,159 units (12,050 units).
Tata Motors' domestic sales of passenger vehicles in June dipped to 14,451 units (15,077 units).
Both the Indica and Indigo reported a decline in sales to 8,700 units (9,426 units) and 2,937 units (3,224 units) respectively.
Utility vehicle sales moved up 15.94 per cent to 2,814 units (2,427 units).
On the BSE today, the Tata Motors scrip closed 1.39 per cent lower at Rs 436.70.
Asked about the automobile manufacturer's rather choppy first quarter with sales hiccup in M&HCVs for April-May and a fall in car sales for June, an equity analyst tracking the sector said, "It is not a cause for worry yet. We will wait for some more time.''
The company's total vehicle sales so far in 2005-06 at 87,496 units were up 3 per cent.
Of which, commercial vehicle sales till June-end trailed by 6.63 per cent at 37,231 units (39,877 units), while passenger vehicle sales stayed ahead by one per cent at 41,192 units (40,781 units).
Exports for June were up 82.8 per cent at 3,037 units (1,661 units).
For the fiscal, it was up113 per cent at 9,037 units (4,260 units).
