6.6 pc hike in Delhi power tariff

Our Bureau

New Delhi , July 7

THE Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has initiated the task of rationalising the inherent cross-subsidies in the retail power tariffs in the Capital.

The state regulator on Thursday announced a 6.6 per cent average increase in retail power tariff in the national capital, with domestic consumers needing to shell out about 10 per cent more for the electricity they consume. No change has been made in the power tariff for slum clusters, which has been retained at Rs 175 a month.

For non-domestic consumers, the hike, on an average, is about 4.9 per cent. For industrial consumers, the hike was around 5.2 per cent, according to the new tariff order announced by the DERC. The worst hit by the new tariff are agricultural consumers who will have to shell out 19.8 per cent more for power.
