Coffee Coffee output may rise 7 per cent Our Bureau
Bangalore , July 5 THE country's coffee crop for 2005-06 is likely to be higher by some seven per cent at 2.94 lakh tonnes compared to the final estimates of 2.75 lakh tonnes in 2004-05, according to the Coffee Board's post-blossom estimates. Arabica output is seen increasing by two per cent to 1.056 lakh tonnes in 2005-06 compared to the final estimate of 1.034 tonnes in 2004-05. Robusta output is projected to increase by around 10 per cent to 1.884 lakh tonnes against the estimated 1.72 lakh tonnes in 2004-05. Coffee output in Karnataka, the main coffee growing State, is likely to see an overall increase of five per cent to around 2.088 lakh tonnes, compared to the estimated 1.986 lakh tonnes in 2004-05. Arabica output in Karnataka is seen increasing by around 3.5 per cent to 85,800 tonnes, while robusta is projected to be higher by 6.31 per cent at 1.23 lakh tonnes. In Kerala, robusta output is projected to be higher by 15 per cent at 60,875 tonnes in 2005-06 against the final estimate of 52,975 tonnes for 2004-05. Arabica crop may see a rise of two per cent to 1,350 tonnes, according to the Coffee Board estimates. Tamil Nadu's overall crop may see a growth of around nine per cent to 19,975 tonnes in 2005-06 over the final estimate of 18,300 tonnes for the previous year. Arabica output is expected to rise by around four per cent to 15,500 tonnes.
