THE Airports Authority of India (AAI), which is on a major information technology implementation drive, is in the process of introducing intranet facilities at 33 select airports in the country. The process is likely to be completed by March 2006.

Addressing newspersons here, Dr K. Ramalingam, Regional Executive Director of AAI, Southern Region, Chennai, said that this facility would help improve efficiency with reference to operational and administrative requirements.

This facility will also be introduced at the Mangalore airport. In the southern region, the facility will be introduced in Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Tiruchi and Madurai airports.

Last year, AAI spent around Rs 20 crore for the IT project.

Apart from this, the AAI is also planning to provide videoconferencing facilities at 19 select major airports in the country.
