Human Resources Satyam, Nasscom in HR initiative Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 27 SATYAM Computer Services Ltd and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) have come together to expand the industry-academia interface to teach trainers, and help them go on a sabbatical and bring out a better groomed tech force. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Senior Vice-President of Global Human Resources at Satyam, Mr T. Hari, said, "Considerable amount of time, energy and resources are spent to make entry-level associates job-ready. Therefore, as an initiative to give back to the society, we have designed Campulse, a new HR initiative that helps closely integrate the resource pool and the teaching community." "The need for such an initiative cropped up, given the problem of finding the right resources. Nasscom has projected that the IT industry could face about 22 per cent manpower shortage by 2009. "This calls for a concerted effort from the industry and the academia to groom and fine-tune skills. We are also proposing a Common Administration Test that would help broaden the recruitment horizon, while tapping new talent," Mr Hari explained. For instance, Satyam is in the process of inducting about 3,100 campus recruits by the third quarter this year and if the mix of freshers and lateral recruits is any indicator, the industry is likely to expand its fresh intake. As part of the industry-academia initiative, Satyam plans to invest about $1 million and reach out to more colleges. Apart from extending such a mentor role, Satyam is also changing its mix by bringing in a multi-cultural work environment. It plans to hike this to about 5 per cent from 3 plus per cent now. As part of this drive, it is recruiting from Chinese campuses. Campulse is a residential training programme wherein trainers learn from industry experience. The company now plans to extend this as a sabbatical opportunity to the faculty, where they would work with the Satyam Learning Centre (SLC).
