AP Govt to showcase Buddhist sites to promote tourism

Hyderabad , June 26

ANDHRA Pradesh has embarked on a major global promotional campaign to sell the tourism potential of Buddhist sites located in the State.

The State chose to take the campaign first to Sri Lanka, a predominantly Buddhist country.

The State is home to 150 Buddhist sites some of them dated back to 3rd century AD and played a key role in the history of Buddhism.

Andhra Tourism Minister, Dr J. Geeta Reddy, and AP Tourism Development Corporation Chairman, Mr C. Anjaneya Reddy, were in Colombo on Friday to launch the publicity blitz.

The road show was jointly organised by AP Tourism and SriLankan Airways that recently launched daily services to Hyderabad. The AP delegation also showcased the Buddhism sites to tour operators in the island nation.

To mark the campaign, a special holiday package was announced, offering a two-night three-day package at $329. "This included return fare," a Government release said here.Also, a 10-day Hyderabadi Food Festival was started at Taj Samudra, Colombo.
