Date for electronic filing of TDS returns extended

K. R. Srivats

New Delhi , June 21

THE Union Finance Ministry has extended the due date for the electronic filing of annual returns for tax collection at source (TCS) for the financial year 2004-05.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for returns that need to be filed in the electronic format from June 30 to July 31, a Revenue Department official said. Both corporates and Government deductors/collectors of tax are required to file their annual returns in the electronic format only.

Similarily, the CBDT has also extended the due date for the filing of quarterly statements of tax deduction at source (TDS) and tax collection at source (TCS) for the first quarter of the financial year 2005-06 to July 31. The extension has been allowed only in respect of those statements that are to be filed in the electronic format.

The CBDT has, however, clarified that there is no change in the due date (June 30) for annual returns of TCS (for 2004-05) that are filed under the paper format. The due date has also not been changed for the quarterly statements of TDS/TCS that are filed in the paper format for the first quarter of 2005-06.
