AP Govt drafts Ordinance on reservations for Muslims

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The State Government has drafted an ordinance that would pave way for five per cent reservations to Muslims, by creating a separate category among backward classes. The ordinance has been sent to the Governor for his assent.

Addressing a press conference here, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said "this was a major poll promise of the Congress and we have managed to pass this despite several hurdles created by various sections of society. Once the consent is received, apart from these people having access to Government jobs, students can also benefit from this academic year itself."
