Our Bureau

Mangalore , June 14

FIVE unions operating at New Mangalore Port (NMP) staged a half-hour demonstration in front of the administrative office of the Trust on Tuesday in protest against the Union Government's plans of divestment in major ports of India.

Mr N. Ramachandra Gowda, President of the NMP Staff Association, told Business Line that around 500 members of different unions took part in the demonstration.

Later, the union leaders submitted a memorandum to the Union Government in this regard.

The memorandum said that the Government should consult the All-India Federations of Port and Dock Workers before taking any action on the proposed privatisation of major ports.
