New Delhi , June 14

M/A-COM Inc, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, is planning to set up design and manufacturing facilities for wireless and signalling equipment in India.

Currently, the company has a unit in China, Ireland and Vietnam. ``We feel that India offers lot of advantage to set up a manufacturing unit. As the wireless market in India develops, we will set up manufacturing and design facilities in India,'' Mr David Coughlan, President, M/A Com Inc, said at a press conference here today. Mr Coughlan said the Indian unit is likely to be as big as the Chinese facility, which employs over 5,000 people.

The company, which manufactures radio frequency and microwave components and subsystems for telecom, aerospace and defence markets, would set up the new facilities in association with local partners.

The company would set up the production facility followed by a design unit. However, it has set no timeframe for establishing the facilities. The company is also rapidly expanding its sales force in India. It is also looking at expanding its channel partner network from one to four.
