Mixed trend in Kochi tea sale

A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties at the Kochi tea auction.

Though the dust sale witnessed a fair general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties.

Of the 14,45,000 kg on offer in the dust category, best CTC's were steady and sometimes dearer. Others were easier by Re 1 to Rs 3. Orthodox teas were easier.

As per figures available with Forbes, Ewart and Figgis Pvt Ltd, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 46 and Rs 62, medium CTC realised Rs 40-44 and below medium were quoted Rs 25-30.

Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 82 and Rs 104, while medium BOPD realised Rs 33-35.

Secondaries were quoted at Rs 27-28, while residuals commanded prices in the range of Rs 25-27.

The leaf sale witnessed only less general demand and the quantity on offer was 5,80,000 kg.

Orthodox was lower by Rs 24. CTC's were irregularly easier. Less demand was witnessed from exporters.

The best Niligiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 50 and Rs 73 and medium Orthodox realised Rs 37-50.

The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 43 and 45, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 36-40.

In the leaf varieties, Kodanaad Cl BOPD realised the best prices of Rs 104, followed by Parkside Cl BOPDS at Rs 82.

In the dust category, Havukal BOPF fetched the best prices of Rs 122 followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 98.
