New Delhi , June 8

GILLETTE India Ltd on Wednesday announced the launch of `Mach 3 Turbo Champion' razor at an introductory price of Rs 199. The product targets youth and those customers who prefer disposable shaving systems.

The company already has `Mach 3 Turbo' in the market, albeit at a higher price of Rs 295.

The Managing Director, Mr Zubair Ahmed, said, "The Mach 3 Turbo Champion has been a great success internationally, and we are confident that it will achieve similar results in the Indian market."

Asked whether two products containing the same features — Mach 3 Turbo and Mach 3 Turbo Champion — at differential prices would confuse customers, the Business Director, Mr Nikhilesh Brahma, said that Mach 3 Turbo Champion "could cannibalise the sales of Mach 3 Turbo for some time, but this will only happen till we maintain the introductory price."

Mr Ahmed declined to comment on the global takeover of the Gillette Company by Procter & Gamble and the repercussions this acquisition was likely to have on the Indian operations.
