FAPCCI pitches for rural development

Hyderabad , May 27

MR O.P. Goenka, President of the Federation of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), said there would not be any development in rural areas unless rural necessities are taken care of.

Addressing the inaugural session at a seminar on the Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) scheme here on Thursday, he said the scheme is aimed at developing rural infrastructure.

"This is essential in minimising migration of rural population to urban areas," he said. Mr Shyam Sunder Pasari, Chairman of the Rural Development Committee of FAPCCI, said it is necessary for the country to make living in villages an attractive proposition. This could be made possible by strengthening the rural economy with modern economic linkages.

"It is essential that PURA becomes a business proposition to be run by small scale industries and entrepreneurs," he said. He called upon the corporate sector to identify the PURA complexes in their areas of operation.
