Nod for more Bt cotton hybrids

Mamuni Das

New Delhi , May 20

THE Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) on Thursday granted approval for commercial release of Bt cotton hybrids to Nuziveedu Seeds.

They include NCS-145 Bunny Bt and NCS 207 Mallika Bt for Central and South zones, said official sources.

It also granted approval to Ajeet Seeds for large-scale field trials and seed production of ACH-155-1 Bt cotton hybrids in the South.

Additionally, GEAC approved Mahyco's MRC-6355 BG-I for large-scale field trials and seed production for Central and South zones.

GEAC declined to permit Mahyco to commence seed production for over one acre for its MRC-7341 BG-II, MRC-7347 BG-II and MRC 7351 BG-II for Central and South zone.

The meeting, scheduled for early June, was rescheduled following demands from companies and agriculturists.

GEAC had already conducted its monthly meeting on May 3.
