NEW DELHI: SpiceJet sold 37,348 tickets by end of Wednesday — the first day of announcing commencement of operations.

This is the largest number of tickets sold by any airline in Asia on the first day of booking.

SpiceJet introduced "Red Hot Special Fares" ranging from Rs 99 to Rs 799, as well as regular fares ranging from Rs 699 to Rs 6,999.

"I am astounded by the level of bookings yesterday. We took our first sale at 6.40 a.m. The response that we have received shows that there is a huge untapped market for air travel in India," said Mr Mark Winders, CEO, SpiceJet.
