Chennai , May 13

EDS, the $20.7-billion IT services provider, has said that its application services arm in India would offer additional technology services as well as services to additional industries.

Addressing the press on Friday, Mr Iain Blacklaw, Vice-President of service delivery for EDS in the Asia-Pacific, said, "Over the next six months, we will offer services to the retail sector; in addition to industries we already address such as telecom, manufacturing and financial services. On the technology front, we will increase focus in the areas of .Net and SAP."

Mr Abhay Gupte, Managing Director of EDS' India operations, has been given additional responsibility for the ASEAN region. He will also be responsible for the software development centres in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

Mr Gupte said the company's plans to increase manpower in India were on track. EDS India last year announced that it aimed to reach a strength of 5,000 by the end of this year. Its current headcount is about 2200.

EDS has centres in Chennai, Pune, Gurgaon and Mumbai, which offer services in business process outsourcing, including help desk and contact centre services, infrastructure technology operations and application services.
