Safeguard duty on tapioca starch imports

New Delhi , May 12

THE Finance Ministry has imposed safeguard duty on imports of tapioca starch. The levy will be for three years.

For the first year (May 2, 2005- May 1, 2006), the duty has been pegged at 33 per cent, followed by a 23 per cent the next year. For the third year, the duty is 13 per cent.

The Ministry has also held that the duty would not be applicable on imports from countries notified as developing countries (other than Thailand and Vietnam) under Section 8B(6)(a) of the Customs Tariff Act.
