VISAKHAPATNAM: The Hindusthan Coca Cola, the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and two other local organisations have combined to set up a co-operative for rag-pickers (christened street beautifiers) to encourage them to pick up plastic bottles from the streets for recycling.

In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Hindusthan Coca Cola said the company would take up a campaign to promote awareness about the importance of PET recycling with the support of two local organisations, Priyadarsini Service Organisation and Janachaitanya Exnora.

The street beautifiers and their families would be insured. They would be issued identity cards and their welfare would be taken care of.

The Chief Minister attended the awareness programme organised by the organisations on Tuesday and expressed his appreciation, according to the release issued by Mr Sudhanshu Pokhriyal, Area General Manager.
