Tax exemption

The latest announcement of the Finance Minister prior to passing the Finance Bill about raising the income-tax exemption for women is unfair, especially when we speak of equality across all sections, irrespective of gender. For one thing, women whose husbands are also working will receive higher exemption, whereas households with only the man as the sole breadwinner will get less exemption.

If at all any such differential exemption is to be given it should be given to an employee whose spouse is not an earning member, irrespective of the sex of the employee.
