VERISIGN, the network and Internet infrastructure service provider, today launched its India Development Centre (IDC). The company plans to invest $6 million in the centre over the next year.

The company expects to hire about 125 persons by the end of the year.

According to Mr Aristotle Balogh, Senior Vice-President (Operations and Infrastructure), the VeriSign IDC will undertake end-to end product engineering, design, development, testing, and software lifecycle management for products and services running over IP and telecommunication networks.

"This facility will be an integral part of VeriSign's global business strategy. Our primary objective is to develop products and services and the IDC will enable the development of products and services quicker."

He added that the $6-million investment would be in infrastructure, human resources and R&D in wireless and wireline, e-commerce, and other forms of online transaction processing, security and Oracle 11i development and maintenance areas.

The IDC will play a role in building core mission-critical solutions for telecom, Internet and management information systems, said Mr Manoj Srivastava, Vice-President (Global Product Engineering) and centre head.

"We are recruiting engineering and software professionals to work on these products and technologies and we will significantly increase the new product development capacity of the company."
