Tea Bought leaf units urge Tea Board to defer e-auctions P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , May 2 THE Nilgiri Bought Leaf Factories Association - the body representing the owners of small-scale private tea factories in the Nilgiris - has appealed to the Tea Board to defer the mandatory implementation of the e-auctions at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) until it is made compulsory in all the auction centres in the country. Mr S. Jayanthilal Jain, Secretary, told Business Line that the appeal was made as decided at an emergency meeting of the association, in which the members expressed serious concern at the decline in prices arising from the frequent disruptions in the e-auctions. In his memorandum to Mr N.K. Das, Tea Board Chairman, Mr Jain said due to disruptions the auctions had to be conducted partially manually and partially electronically. "But this has severely affected the smooth flow of trade. This is leading to large quantities of teas being unsold and out-listed resulting in lower price realisation," he said.
