Industry & Economy - Anti-dumping

Dumping duty imposed on NTCF imports from China

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , April 30

THE Union Finance Ministry has clamped a definitive anti-dumping duty of $0.54 per kg on nylon tyre cord fabric (NTCF) imports from certain specified suppliers from China. A definitive anti-dumping duty usually lasts for five years.

The domestic tyre industry consumes about 85,000 tonnes of NTCF every year. A tyre industry official said the entire domestic production is consumed and the remaining requirement is met through imports of about 30,000 tonnes. Imports from China during 2003-04 stood at about 13,000 tonnes.

Tyre makers feel that the definitive anti-dumping duty on NTCF imports may result in further cost-push on the raw material front. Meanwhile, the domestic tyre makers are considering various legal options against the imposition of the definitive anti-dumping duty.
