Yo! China plans to set up 100 outlets

Sudha Menon

Pune , April 17

MOODS Hospitality, the company behind quick service Chinese food chain, Yo! China, plans to expand its footprint across major markets.

The company will use a combination of self-owned and franchisee operations to take the number of outlets from the current five to a 100 in the next three years, Mr Arun Chada, Director, Moods Hospitality, told Business Line.

The company has firmed up a Rs-10 crore investment plan in the next year which will be used for upgrading its existing central kitchen at Gurgaon and adding capacities to feed its proposed expansion plans, Mr Chada said. "Of this, Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for setting up five company-owned restaurants in Mumbai," he added.

Yo! China hopes to get a large slice of the lucrative Mumbai market. It plans to set up at least fifteen franchisee outlets across the city, the first of which is expected to come up at Navi Mumbai by early 2006, Mr Ashish Kapur, Managing Director, Moods Hospitality, said.

Moods Hospitality, set up the first Yo! China outlet in the Capital two years ago with the idea of offering street hawker pricing for high quality Chinese food in a trendy, comfortable ambience.

The company has based the Yo! China brand on the lines of quick service Chinese food chains like Panda Express and Pick up Sticks that are found across the US.

On the anvil are outlets in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Jalandhar and Jaipur.

"Our flagship outlets in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata will be company-owned because we want to have central kitchens in these locations to feed our growth plans," Mr Chada said.

Meanwhile, the company's expansion plan is all set to take off with the launch of its first outlet outside the Capital region, in Pune's latest destination mall, Mariplex at Kalyaninagar.

The 85-cover restaurant scheduled to open on Monday is the company's first outlet in the western region and will be followed by at least a couple of others in other parts of the city by the end of the year, Mr Ashish Kochhar, Director, Allied Hopspitality (P) Ltd, western region franchisee, said.

The company is targeting a business of Rs 12 lakh in Pune, Mr Kochchar said and added that plans are also being finalised to kick off its home delivery service.
