Average salary offers touch Rs 10 lakh at ISB placements

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 12

THE Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business (ISB) has recorded an average domestic annual salary of Rs 10.01 lakh and an average international annual salary of $100,000 (Rs 44 lakh) from its placement programme for the 2005 batch.

The highest domestic salary offer of Rs 20 lakh has been offered to a woman student, whereas the highest international salary offer is $181,000 (Rs 80 lakh).

The average work experience of students at ISB was five years, with the minimum work experience being less than two years and maximum 17 years. (ISB takes in only students with work experience.)

Out of the 273 students in the 2005 batch, 251 participated in placements and a total of 344 offers were made to the students, said Mr Ajit Rangnekar, Deputy Dean.

He added that the consulting sector was the biggest recruiter followed by information technology and financial services.

The number of offers made this year was up by 26 per cent compared to last year.

Talking about the latest trends in ISB, he said that the institute has always encouraged women students to enroll for its management programmes, and with a representation of 19 per cent this batch had the highest number of women students across B-schools in the country.

"Women students provide a different perspective on issues being discussed. Moreover, international companies demand and ask for women students," said Mr Rangnekar.

"While the highest domestic salary is Rs 20 lakh now, this may change since one of our students is in discussion with a company for Rs 21-22 lakh."

Offers for lateral placements have gone up significantly, with 97 per cent of offers (333) being made for lateral placements, up from 81 per cent (221) last year.

All positions above the entry management level are considered lateral positions, said Mr Rangnekar.

Eight students were offered international positions in the $130,000-$180,000 range, he added.

MNCs that have made international offers include Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Novartis, Development Bank of Singapore, and Marakon Associates.

Another interesting trend was that of Indian companies such as BirlaSoft, ITC Infotech, Satyam Computers, Mindtree Consulting, and RPG offering international positions in countries such as the UK, Australia, the US, Singapore, and others.

ISB would be increasing its intake of students to "at least 320" for the 2006 batch; the institute has a capacity for 550-600 students.

The institute plans to open a centre for manufacturing, supply chain and logistics this year. It already has a centre for entrepreneurship and one for analytical finance.
