Chennai , April 7

TAJ Business Hotels plans to increase its footprint in the country with at least two hotels in all major metros, Ms Jyoti Narang, Chief Operating Officer (Business Hotels), the Taj Group, has said.

The company wants a larger presence for its business hotels in the central business districts of Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai, according to Ms Narang. In Chennai, besides the GVK Taj hotel, the company plans another hotel either near the airport or near the IT corridor, she said.

The company has gone in for renovation of all its business hotels and has also launched new hotels in this segment. It launched new rooms at the Taj Residency, Bangalore; the Taj Blue Diamond, Pune; the Taj Residency Visakhapatanam; and the Taj Connemara, Chennai.

This year, new rooms will be thrown open in Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh.

Further, the company has invested Rs 50 crore in relaunching its restaurants and bars. All food and beverage outlets such as the coffee shops, bars, specialty restaurants and pastry shops have been given a more contemporary and cosmopolitan look.

Ms Narang said the relaunch of the restaurant was based on extensive research. She said the coffee shops would work 24/7 and be "alive" at night. At breakfast, guests will be able to make their juice, coffee and wellness food, followed by a selection of international and local cuisines for lunch and dinner.

The Taj Connemara, in Chennai, has also thrown open its new restaurant, called Hip Asia, and the bar, Distil. At Hip Asia, the choice of cuisine acknowledges the South Indian influence on Asian food. The wines have been selected by an international sommelier to match the food, she said.
